Shown here is a chart that can be used as a general guide when evaluating Beta VCRs. It is not intended to be the definitive word on how to rank different types of problems or various kinds of circumstances found in the repair industry. When using this guide one must keep in mind that the percentage amounts should be used with the consideration of other variables. Because I refurbish Betas that are offered for resale to the general public, many of the deductions listed are weighed heavily upon their impact with prospective customers. Some listed generate considerable reductions in circumstances that involve appearance items that cannot be replaced and may have to fabricated. The amount of time invested in renewing an especially difficult unit would also be a factor. Overall condition has a big influence. Each item or unit also has an intrinsic value factor based upon it's rarity, features and appeal. No mention is made above covering some of the more exotic repairs that require special consideration. An example of these would be digital picture problems, they are not very common but can be ghastly to diagnose and correct. The chart represents opinion based upon years of experience, but as with most things it is an only an opinion. I want to repeat it is not intended to be a definitive guide on which to judge all Beta situations. To start at the beginning with a new and refurbished unit click here.
