In an effort to make the SLO-1800 cassette duplicator indestructible Sony designed a formidable metal frame loader to handle the cassettes. They cast polystyrene plastic to the metal tracks so that the loading action would be smooth and consistent under repeated use. Unfortunately the passage of time causes the plastic to shrink, crack and pull away from the metal, which in turn renders loading difficult to impossible. The only satisfactory way I have found to correct this problem and give the VCR a new life is to completely rebuild the assembly. That process is shown here explained in the nine photos above.
