One of the Beta format's great virtues is its superior picture. Because of its larger video drum, it is able to record a greater amount of picture information than the other format. Taking advantage of this and improved videotape formulation, Sony engineers pushed the carrier envelope up to increase the picture detail. The result is called SuperBeta, and the graphic above is a reproduction of a Sony literature piece that describes this technology in layman's terms.
